Prosecutor IDs 31-Year-Old Woman Shot Dead In NJ's Largest City

A woman was fatally shot in Newark on Sunday, July 28, authorities said.

At 11:23 p.m., Newark police responded to 4th Avenue and North 12th Street where they found Brielle Alston, 31, suffering from a gunshot wound, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.

Alston was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m., Stephens and Frage said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, Stephens and Frage said.
